The visual, conceptual, and written are inexorably linked to my mind: Words in images, and images in words. Painting is a kind of shorthand, where every image, color, and detail represents pages of carefully chosen words.
Through the process of visual creation and appreciation, we release the control and structure of language. Visual art represents the mundane and the extreme of the human condition across the boundaries of language and culture. It can represent both the simplicity and the complexity of a condition, person, idea, even the universe; and the best master works are able to represent both on a single canvas.
